What do you have to do on the test?
In the first part of the theory test you are required to answer 50 randomly selected
multiple choice questions from the DVSA question bank. In order to pass you must
score at least 43 correct answers by selecting the appropriate response(s) via the
touch screen.
If you already have your provisional driving licence you can apply to take the theory
test, the first step to gaining your full licence. Details of how to apply can be
found on the Direct Gov website by clicking here..
This is a computer based two-part test, and both parts must be taken at the same
time. The required pass mark for each part must be achieved in order for you to apply
to take the practical test .
What do you need to study for the theory test?
It is advisable to get yourself a current version of The Official Highway Code and
read it well. This best-selling book may not be as captivating as say a Harry Potter
novel but it does contain the rules and guidelines for safe driving.
I would also recommend you obtain copies of the following books since both of these
contain information that is required for the theory test.
You can obtain these either from the TSO Online Bookshop or use the above links.
(Other high-street bookshops and Internet retailers are available.)
